The most enjoyable part of painting for me is my experience of putting paint and brush to canvas. The most challenging part is putting my experience with paint, brush and canvas into words. I have been interested in art from a very young age and in 2000 made a conscious decision to make painting my career. I started by exploring different mediums (pastels, acrylic and watercolour) with a definite foundation in landscape as a subject. Now I work primarily in acrylic with charcoal on canvas and paper. I still like to paint the landscape, but have found abstraction to be my inspiration and an important element in my work.  I enjoy taking a subject, i.e. a still life or landscape, and playing with composition and creatively interpreting the elements. Doing so allows me the freedom in the creative process to see mountains, pebbles, trees and boats as interesting shapes, layers of colours, and textures. I try and keep my work carefree and loose so that the viewer sees and feels my energy in the brushstrokes and in the marks I make on the canvas.
